How it begins every morning
Friday Morning, 4:07 a.m.
Groggily our radio hero arises from his futon to begin another day of producing the Bob and Mark morning show. The radio alarm clock blasts him awake, a Shakira song bringing a bright mood to the Spenard efficiency where he dwells. It is Friday. He hits the “off” button on his Sony Dream Machine, and he gives his framed picture of Doughboy a loving glance as he heads to the shower…
4:33 a.m.
Fumbling for his keys, Alice opens the door to his babe-magnet Chevy Equinox and drives to the coffee shack where he gets free coffee for himself and Bob and Mark. He’s already running late, but coffee will soften the ridicule from his horrible masters. He asks in a cheerful tone if the cute coffee girl making his beverages has any radio producer in her.
4:47 a.m.
Coffee in one hand and keycard in the other, Alice enters the Morris Studios. He passes Cary Carigan in the hallway, wondering to himself how any guy who plays oldies and incorrectly forecasts weather can be so chipper at 5 a.m. He concludes that Carigan must be some kind of robot.
4:48 a.m.
He hands Bob and Mark their respective coffees. Mark is quietly pouring over the news of the day, and Bob comments that it must be nice to show up whenever he feels like it. Alice imagines a Mortal-Kombat style finishing move and giggles under his breath. Finish him.
5:02 a.m.
Alice finals arrives at his home away from home, Production Studio One. Cramped and smelling slightly of crab legs, the room is his domain. He fires up the board and begins a comprehensive list of things he needs to edit, things he needs to download, and what busy work he can hand off to the college intern, Blumpkin. Welcome to free-form Friday.
